2019 CPM Teacher Conference!

We host this conference as an investment in the most important educational resource that America has—the classroom teacher. We are honored that you chose to join us. It is our hope that what you saw, heard, did, and learned at this conference will leave you motivated and inspired to continue the pursuit of mathematics with your students and colleagues.

We extend a thank you to those who were willing to present their ideas and strategies with their colleagues. We hope you enjoyed your time in the beautiful San Francisco area and left energized to continue empowering your students. We hope to see you next year!

Consider speaking at the 2020 CPM Teacher Conference: February 22 & 23, 2020
Share your experience and the lessons you have learned teaching students how to reason, solve problems, and communicate mathematically.

Speaker proposals are due by May 15, 2019.

As lead speaker, you will receive one complimentary registration and a conference grant to help defray the cost of the conference. The amount of the conference grant has yet to be determined.

Chapter Closure: Let's Have Some Fun!
This session will be repeated Sunday at 8:30.  The old school way of reviewing before a test needs to be thrown out the window! Get the kids up and moving. Get them talking about what they've learned. Why not let them strut their stuff a little? We will share several of our ideas of some successful chapter closure techniques we have used and open it up for attendees to share some of theirs as well. Using these tools can be so much fun that your students will forget they are studying!

TABLE TALK: #MTBoS: Find Your Math Community
A Table Talk is an informal conversation on a topic, such as a conversation at a table during and after a meal. There is no set agenda, just the opportunity to share thoughts and ideas.  This Table Talk will focus on the MTBoS, Math Twitter Blogosphere, the best professional community I have ever had.
You will learn about the different math chats, who to follow, how to not get overwhelmed, and the Global Math Department.

Connect with your community of math teachers whether you teach K-5, middle school, high school, or are coaching.

Tiny Teamwork: CPM Strategies for One (or Two) Team Classrooms
Do you teach small classes? If so, you know that, while some challenges, such as massive homework grading, are certainly diminished, those are replaced by new challenges such as not enough opinions, or strong personality clashes. How many ways are there to group six students, and how can CPM’s Study Team Teaching Strategies be used effectively in a class of only 3 or 4 students? In this session, we will explore how to keep things moving in our tiny yet diverse classes. You will walk away with many new ideas you can implement in your classrooms next week, to help your students develop those lifelong communication skills and learn to work together.

CPM Year One Journey: Success, Struggles, and Year Two Implementation
The first year of CPM implementation was a challenging but worthwhile journey. Join our session, as we use our reflections of year one to form goals for the second year. Selected CPM strategies address our goals to (1) engage middle school students to stay on task during problem-based lessons and (2) foster a mindset and expectations for students to interact in groups. Our session will incorporate videos of our classroom experiences and learning experiences of minority and inclusion students.
